2’-FL helps support the developing immune system in the gut and beyond1–7

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are complex carbohydrates which form the 3rd most abundant solid component in breast milk after lactose and lipids8

The most abundant HMO in most mothers’ milk is 2’-fucosyllactose (2’-FL), a trisaccharide consisting of glucose, galactose and fucose.1

Approximately 80% of women can produce and secrete 2’-FL in their breast milk,9 which has proven benefits on the gut and systemic immune responses.1–7

Less complex carbohydrates, such as the prebiotic sugars galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), have also demonstrated benefits on the gut, however GOS and FOS do not appear to have a direct role supporting the systemic immune system.4

Infants fed standard formula with 2’-FL*, compared with standard formula without 2’-FL*, have:

down

66% fewer parent reports of respiratory infections (p<0.05)1

down

Significantly lower levels of multiple inflammatory cytokines (p≤0.05), which were comparable to levels of breastfed infants2

down

Significantly fewer (0% vs 5%) parent reports of eczema (p<0.05)3

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Breastfeeding is best for infants and is recommended for as long as possible during infancy. Alimentum and EleCare are infant formulas for special medical purposes and should only be used under the recommendation or guidance of a healthcare professional.

*The 2'-FL (2'-fucosyllactose) used in this formula is biosynthesised and structurally identical to the human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) 2'-FL, found in most mothers' breast milk1.
Studies conducted in healthy-term infants fed standard Similac formula with 2’-FL (not Alimentum or EleCare), compared to control formula without 2’-FL.

2’-FL: 2’-fucosyllactose; FOS: fructo-oligosaccharides; GOS: galacto-oligosaccharides; HMO: human milk oligosaccharide.
