Breastfeeding is best for babies and provides many benefits. It is important that, in preparation for and during breastfeeding, you eat a healthy, balanced diet. Combined breast and bottle feeding in the first weeks of life may reduce the supply of your own breast milk, and reversing the decision not to breastfeed is difficult. The social and financial implications of using an infant milk should be considered. Improper use of an infant milk or inappropriate foods or feeding methods may present a health hazard. If you use an infant milk, you should follow manufacturer’s instructions for use carefully – failure to follow the instructions may make your baby ill.

Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil that comes from the fruit of oil palm trees. It is an extremely versatile ingredient and is used in nearly 50% of the packaged products we find in supermarkets, everything from pizza and chocolate to deodorant and shampoo (WWF: 2018).
Palm oil is commonly used in baby formulas. Although it requires more clinical evidence, some research results associate palm oil with harder stools. Palm oil-free formulas are good for the environment and may be good for your baby's healthy digestion. (ESPGHAN Committee on Nutrition: 2019).
Despite being widely used around the world, palm oil has a high environmental cost. The growing demand for palm oil means that palm oil production is now one of the leading causes of tropical deforestation and human-induced climate change (Rainforest Action Network: 2013).
An organization called the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) was established in 2004; bringing together representatives from across the palm oil production industry who are committed to the sustainable production and use of palm oil, minimizing the negative impacts of palm oil production on the environment and those who live in areas where palm oil is produced (RSPO: 2019).
